Self-Clinching Fasteners Tolerances

Self-clinching fasteners, often called PEMs, after Penn Engineering & Manufacturing Corp., are threaded nuts, studs, or standoffs that are mechanically pressed into sheet metal to create strong, solid fastening points.

Protocase determines the correct nominal hole size to ensure each self-clinching fastener is securely installed.

From your perspective as a designer, the positional tolerance for self-clinching fastener placement is simply our "hole" position tolerance, which is typically ± 0.005" (0.13 mm).

When designing, you may also need to know what to expect for the physical dimensions of the fasteners themselves.

Self-clinching fasteners must follow minimum bend requirements – see Minimum Bend page here.

For more information about PEM fasteners and their tolerances, visit the PEM website.
